Join the Chineke! Orchestra

20 Feb 2024

Dear Friends and Music Lovers,

Ever wanted to sing with a large symphonic chorus?
I’m excited to invite you to consider joining a unique and enriching experience with the Chineke! Orchestra. After celebrating our 8th anniversary, we’re proud to announce the formation of the Chineke! Amateur Symphonic Chorus, which will launch with a performance with the Chineke! Orchestra at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre on 3 May 2024. We are at virtual capacity with female voices, but are extremely low on male voices.

Inclusivity at Our Core:
Chineke!'s spirit is rooted in diversity and inclusion. While our performers are predominantly Black and ethnically diverse, we extend a warm welcome to individuals of all ethnicities, colours, and nationalities. Our mission goes beyond showcasing diversity; we demonstrate how inclusion enhances the beauty and quality of music.

Vocal Ability:
Your ability to sing in tune is essential. Reading music is not a prerequisite, because we will provide tools to help you learn the pieces and aid in this process. More importantly, we value your commitment to independently learn your part, which is crucial for the collective success of our chorus.

The Joy of Teamwork:
Being part of the Chineke! Amateur Symphonic Chorus is also not just about singing; it's about the synergy of working together. You'll be expected to follow a conductor and collaborate harmoniously with fellow choir members. Teamwork is the heartbeat of our ensemble, and shared journey of experiences.
We invite enthusiastic singers from African and Afro-Caribbean communities, and beyond, to join us in this pioneering project. This is more than a performance; it's an opportunity to be part of a movement that’s reshaping the classical music landscape.

For more information and to express your interest, please visit our website and feel free to reach out to me personally at chichi@chineke.org. We appreciate prompt responses to facilitate the preparation for this exciting venture.

Thank you for considering this invitation. Together, let's create a chorus that not only looks like the world in its diversity but sounds like the harmony we all strive for in music and life.

With warm regards,
Chi-chi Nwanoku CBE, (Hon) Mus.D. Cantab  and Honorary Bencher Middle Temple
