Minutes of Parliament

These volumes record the minutes of Parliament, the Inn’s senior governing body, between 1501 and 1919. The minutes concern discussions had and decisions made on a vast range of subjects, including the appointment of office-bearers such as Readers and Treasurers, the admission of members to the Inn and to chambers, construction, maintainence and rent of chambers and shops, discipline at the Inn, staff recruitment and wages, legal education, food and drink, the Inn’s relationship with other institutions, and life at the Inn during the First World War.

 

Published Minutes of Parliament (1501 - 1703)

The minutes of Parliament for this peiod were edited, translated (from Latin) transcribed and published in the early 1900s. They include the admission of members until 1658. These volumes are now out of copyright and have been made available at:

The handwritten volumes of minutes of Parliament covering this period have been digitised from microfilm in order to make them more easily accessible to researchers. We regret that, due to limited staff resources, we are not able to assist with questions relating to palaeography and terminology, but we hope in due course to be able to provide machine searchable transcriptions and a glossary.
