Bio:

Sir Elliott was called to the called to the Bar of England and Wales in November 1961. After completing pupilage in London, he returned to practice law in Barbados.

In 1969, he was elected to Parliament and served with his father Ernest D. Mottley C.B.E. for two years. He was re-elected in 1971.  

In 1976, he retired from politics and became the Principal Representative of the Government of Barbados in New York, USA.

In 1980, Sir Elliott was made one of her Majesty’s Counsel in Barbados. He has been called to the Bar of the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Montserrat and Trinidad and Tobago.

He has represented the governments of Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, and Montserrat.

In January 1995, he was appointed as Her Majesty’s Attorney General for Bermuda and served until the end of November 1998. On returning to private practice, he formed a law firm, Elliott D. Mottley & Co.

Served as a non-resident Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal in Belize – 1999- 2004. Appointed President of the Court in 2004 to 2010

Served as a non-resident Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal in the Cayman Island – 2005-2015.

Served as a non-resident Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal in Turks and Caicos – 2000 to 2020. Appointed President of the Court in 2016.
