Bio:

Nicholas Stonor KC was born and brought up in Newcastle Upon Tyne. He was educated at St Cuthbert’s High School, read law at UCL and was called by Middle Temple in 1993. He undertook pupillage and the early years of practice in specialist family law chambers in London, before returning to Newcastle in 1996 where he has since practised from Trinity Chambers. He took silk in 2015. He specialises in Family Law and Court of Protection proceedings and has a particular interest in cases involving religious / cultural and medical issues and where the COP and care jurisdictions overlap. Nicholas was appointed a Family Court Recorder in 2016 (Northern Circuit) and a Deputy High Court Judge in 2019. He was a member of the Bar Standards Board Professional Conduct Committee (now IDB) from 2014 to 2020. He is a lecturer at the Judicial College. Nicholas has had a longstanding involvement in the recruitment and development of pupils, and in the continuing professional education of himself and others. He is a member of the FLBA and the North Eastern Circuit. He enjoys walking, talking, tennis and music.
