Was born in Guildford and educated at Great Ballard and Cranleigh Schools.
During his gap year he attended Sandhurst and made Second Lieutenant with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, serving 9 months in West Berlin.
He obtained an LLB at Leicester University and was called to the Bar in 1986. He practised in London until 1991, when he joined Number 3 Fountain Court in Birmingham. When those Chambers disbanded in 2005, he became a member of Number 5 Chambers. He was made a Recorder of the Crown Court in 2003 and took Silk in 2010.
His areas of practice are Criminal Law and Regulatory, specialising in Police Discipline and Inquests.
Outside of work his interests include Skiing, Shooting, Golf, Cricket, Singing, Walking and Wine, although not necessarily in that order!
He is an Associate Member of the MCC and has recently joined the Middle Temple Membership Committee.
