Bio:

Mary Stacey read English Language and Literature at Keble College, Oxford, graduating in 1982. After a law conversion course she was articled (training contract) at Clifford Chance and become a solicitor in 1984,. She moved to Simons, Muirhead & Burton where she became a partner and then Thompsons solicitors where she was a partner, management board member and Head of the Equal Rights Department specialising in employment, discrimination and equal pay.

She became a Employment Judge in 1997, initially fee paid and then salaried, a recorder in 2006 on the South-East circuit, and a circuit judge in 2014 on the Midland circuit in Birmingham Crown Court. She was appointed as a visiting Judge of the Employment Appeal Tribunal in 2017 and appointed as s.9(4) Deputy High Court Judge in 2019. Before her appointment as a Judge of the High Court, Queen’s Bench division in October 2020 she was Acting Designated Civil Judge in Birmingham Civil Justice Centre from May-September 2020.

She was chair of the Industrial Law Society 2005-2009 and now a Vice President, has been a member of Council of Goldsmiths College, University of London, ACAS arbitrator and Deputy Chair of the Central Arbitration Committee from 2000- 2019.
