Standing Committees

The Inn’s sovereign body is Parliament – the governing body of Benchers of the Inn - but Parliament is supported by Standing Committees, all of which are clearly focused on the Inn’s core purposes.

The main Standing Committee is the Executive Committee.

Reporting to Parliament through the Executive Committee there are five Standing Committees:

  • Education and Training Committee is responsible for the Inn's education and training strategy, policy and support. It advises the Inn on all matters of educational policy that affect studetn or barrister members. It oversees the implementation of the regulatory requirements set by the Bar Standards Board and conributes to consultations affecting the profession or the INn
  • Membership Committee is responsible for supporting and engaging members across a range of activities at all stages of their professional career.
  • Estates Committee is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Inn’s estate and preservation of its historic heritage. This includes the repair, improvement and modernisation of the Inn’s buildings and grounds, leasing of accommodation for Barristers’ Chambers and residential use, preservation of security within the precincts of the Inn and car parking.
  • Finance and Resources Committee's main responsibility is to advise Parliament on matters affecting the finances of the Inn and IT operations.
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee is responsible for promoting equality, diversity and inclusion at the Inn. This includes establishing and monitoring EDI programmes across the Inn and providing a forum in which EDI issues can be discussed.
