Scholarships

At Middle Temple our focus is on training future generations of the most talented and motivated barristers who will go on to play key roles in contributing to the rule of law in England and Wales.

We believe that neither background nor income should be obstacles to talent

That’s why we are giving up to £1.5 million in scholarships to support those with the most potential undertaking the Bar Course or the GDL.

All of our scholarships are awarded based on merit. They are determined by an assessment of your advocacy skills, your intellectual ability and your future potential as a barrister.

Scholar Testimonial

"To me, a scholarship represented a big vote of confidence from members of the Bar and judiciary which would be invaluable for pupillage applications. If you are thinking about applying for a scholarship, do it! Middle Temple is extremely generous with their awards, and there is no paper-sift, meaning that everyone had a guarantee of being interviewed. I may be impartial but Middle Temple have been fantastic in terms of support and I cannot fault them."

Our Awards:

  • Scholarships of £20,000 to the most outstanding candidates regardless of financial circumstance.

Why apply for a scholarship?

Middle Temple scholarships are more than just funding. They are extremely prestigious and an investment in your future. They are a powerful vote of confidence from Middle Temple’s most senior members in your ability to succeed. Winning a scholarship significantly increases the chances of getting a pupillage. Statistics from the Bar Council show that a candidate is almost three times more likely to get a pupillage if they have a scholarship than those without.

"Middle's unique approach of awarding scholarships based on merit, with means-testing as a secondary consideration, spoke volumes. It signalled that my academic and personal achievements were recognised and valued, affirming that I possessed the aptitude and dedication necessary for a successful career at the Bar as a mixed-race woman."
