Event Details

On Thursday 24 October, the Wales Circuit Society will be hosting a two part social. Her Honour Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, Senior Circuit Judge and Recorder of Cardiff, will give a talk covering her career through the Bar and onto the Bench. 

Following the lecture, there will be a drinks reception held at Revolution, Cardiff. There will be food and drink available, as well as some money behind the bar, so make sure you get there early to avoid missing out!

Students and transferring lawyers need to attend the whole event including the lecture before dinner in order to claim a Qualifying Session. Other Members and Guests are of course most welcome to attend the lecture, or can attend the reception onwards.

Qualifying Session Details

This event counts as one Qualifying Session. Students and transferring lawyers need to attend the lecture before dinner in order to claim a Qualifying Session.

HHJ Tracey Lloyd-Clarke will provide a lecture outlining her career so far, covering her journey from the Bar to the Bench. She has worked both in private practice and for the CPS, held various judicial positions, and in 2022, HHJ Lloyd-Clarke was appointed as the Recorder of Cardiff. Within her talk, she will explain how it’s possible to succeed at the Bar without contacts and the supposedly conventional background and will offer advice and encouragement to students on their careers.

Learning Aims

After this session, students should be able to:

  • Identify the differences between judicial positions.
  • Discuss the difficulties posed during a career at the bar, and how to overcome them.
