Event Details

In this talk District Judge Susan Williams will discuss the top tips of what to do and what not do when appearing in the Magistrates’ and Youth Courts. Judge Williams will discuss how to navigate your way around the Magistrates’ and Youth Courts, understanding the Youth Court and all that comes with the territory and the key principles of advocacy when appearing in front of a professional or lay judge.


Students and transferring lawyers need to attend the whole event including the reception in order to claim a Qualifying Session.

Learning Aims:

After this session, students should be able to:

  • Describe how to navigate the Magistrates' and Youth Courts
  • Formulate good bail applications and pleas in mitigation
  • Illustrate understanding of the Youth Court, intermediaries, vulnerable witnesses and how to deal with them.

Where we have a waiting list we will offer your ticket to someone else, so please do cancel your ticket if you are no longer able to attend.
