This session will be led by Master Brian Leveson and Master Sheila Block.
Please join two lawyers with many years of advocacy experience between them, Master Brian Leveson and Master Sheila Block, as they take you through the challenges of advocacy. They will not only remind you of the fundamentals, but will touch on the nuances that make for effective advocacy. Their conversation will cover how to arrive at a case theory; opening (telling the story); how to prepare your client for the challenge of giving evidence without coaching; how to get the most out of your witnesses; how to anticipate what might bother a fair-minded judge.
Expect to leave with a fresh understanding of persuasive advocacy.

Learning Outcomes:
After this session, students should be able to:
- Identify some of the practical challenges that you will be presented with as an advocate.
- Recognise the differences in advocacy between different jurisdictions, in this case England & Wales and Canada.
- Evaluate the position of the judge and the opposing side when preparing their advocacy.
