Jeremy Gauntlett SC KC will give this lecture which focusses on advocacy skills, particularly in oral argument and engagement with judicial officers and others who conduct hearings.

It seeks to explore how these can be developed: by personal development of skills, by own experience in hearings, and through advocacy training. The pioneering role of Timothy Dutton CBE KC in this regard, as initiator of the Keble training course and of other advocacy training projects internationally, features.

Master Gauntlett (Jeremy Gauntlett SC KC) practises from Brick Court and chambers in Cape Town and Johannesburg. He has served as chairman of the South African Bar, co-chair of the International Council of Barristers and Advocates, vice-chair of the Bar for the International Criminal Court and on the Council of the IBA. He has been elected to the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and serves on a number of international arbitral bodies.
