Barristers at the start of their careers often have many questions about preparation for pupillage, career development and wellbeing. Is there support for barristers starting off and how do I access it? Will my career be hindered or helped by being on circuit? How do I develop my practice to achieve my goals? This session is intended to help those interested in working on circuit and will cover circuit structure, sources of support and how to make the most of the opportunities available to them.

This session will touch on many areas of practise on circuit, such as, settling into chambers; building strong relationships with colleagues including solicitors and Judges; building a good reputation; participating in the life of circuit, including with your Inn, and how one can set realistic objectives for the different stages of one’s career.

The speakers leading the talk are:

  • HHJ Thomas Gilbart
  • Boyd Morwood (9sjs)
  • Rebecca Jones (23es)
  • Mark Pritchard (Central Chambers)
  • Sara Harrison-Fisher (St John's Buildings)
