About Bodegas Manzanos
The Muga Barahona family served as the forerunner to what is now known as Bodegas Berceo. The Muga´s family owned some land in the city of Haro, and when it caught the eye of Guy Hageman, a Bordeaux native, he was captivated. In 1872, Hageman decided to purchase the Muga family's land to establish the first winery in the city of Haro, known today as Bodegas Berceo.

Hageman envisioned a winery designed in the Bordeaux style, allowing for the use of gravity throughout the entire winemaking process. This winery, reminiscent of Chartron's neighborhood in Bordeaux, changed ownership several times until Gurpegui Muga successfully reclaimed it in the 1950s after considerable effort. Luis Gurpegui Muga was one of the precursors in elaborating fine wines in the Rioja Appellation.

Carlos Roig is a representative of Luis Gurpegui Muga family, with a deep-rooted connection to the vineyards through his family in Valencia. Armed with a master's degree in international business, Carlos pursued his studies in both Italy and Spain.

Carlos's professional journey has been diverse and impactful. He served at the Spanish embassy, facilitating the establishment of Spanish wineries in the Indian market. Over the past three years, he has played a pivotal role at the family Luis Gurpegui Muga in the United States. Carlos has embarked on a new chapter, having relocated to London to continue his dedicated work with the winery.

Nick Hillman is the Managing Director of Wineservice. He follows in his late father’s footsteps by bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience earned from an honourable 31 years in the trade. Nick has travelled many miles across the world’s vineyards to develop a thorough understanding of the wines we source and the customers we serve.

Nick is father to two sons, Charles and Elliot Hillman, both of whom have enjoyed harvest time at wineries in Argentina and France.
