Event Details

The Middle Temple Students’ Association (MTSA) have set up an Advocacy Club for anyone who is interested in developing their own advocacy styles and gaining more experience and confidence with advocacy and public speaking.

The Middle Temple Students’ Association Advocacy Club is hosting its first in-person moot. This moot is an opportunity to hone advocacy skills, and receive individual feedback from judges.

By booking onto this event, you are entering yourself to participate in a moot.  There are no spectator tickets.

Only book if you are committed to do the necessary preparation and to participate on the day. Senior members of the Inn are giving up their valuable time to act as judges and it is not acceptable to cancel at short notice.


Names and email addresses of those who book will be passed to the Mooting Officer who is organising this event.

Specific details of the preparation required for participants will be made available in advance. The problems will be released two weeks before the event, and the skeleton arguments will be due on 13 March at 19:00.

Once you have booked:

  • If you would like to indicate your order of preference for the areas of law to moot in (civil, crime or family - subject to availability), email the Mooting Officer.
  • If you know another student who has entered the competition you can pair up and notify the Mooting Officer. Where students enter individually, we will pair them up with others who have done so similarly.

Student members (including transferring lawyers) must attend all elements of the event in order to be awarded the Qualifying Session. This includes any lecture/talk/moot/reception/dinner/speeches.

Learning Aims

After this session, students should be able to:

  • Construct legal arguments and present them orally and in written form
  • Identify persuasive and effective techniques during personal preparation, and receive constructive feedback on their delivery from practitioners
  • Recognise strengths and weaknesses in their own, and opposing, cases

Members of Middle Temple can buy tickets online. Please note that you must log in first (if you have not yet created a login please register first). Alternatively, you can buy tickets from the Treasury Office by calling 020 7427 4800.

Members of other Inns, where applicable (please refer to 'Who can Attend'), can buy tickets from the Treasury Office by calling 020 7427 4800. Online booking is not available.

Cancellations: Where we have a waiting list we will offer your ticket to someone else, so please do cancel your ticket if you are no longer able to attend.
