Professor Alastair Hamilton will be joining us to give a short introduction to some of the Islamic books in Middle Temple Library’s collection of rare books. Books on display will include The Koran (an English translation made by George Sale and published in 1734); L'alcorano di Macometto (Venice, 1547); Historia Iosephi Patriarchæ ex Alcorano, Arabice (Leiden, 1617); Historia Saracenica (Leiden, 1625).
Professor Hamilton is an expert on the history of Arabic studies, Western relations with the Arab world, and orientalism in early modern Europe. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Warburg Institute, University of London.
