Thrice to Rome at the Temple Church

29 Feb 2024

THRICE TO ROME
Tuesday 5th March 18:30–20:00
The Temple Church, London EC4Y 7BB

Dramatised reading of a play written by Professor Norman Doe about Gerald of Wales in Rome before the court of Pope Innocent III in 1200-03.

This is a tale of canonical intrigue, Church and State in conflict and an epic clash between the church in Wales and England.

Set in the Temple Church, which was consecrated in 1185 and where negotiations which led to the sealing of Magna Carta in 1215 took place during Gerald of Wales’ lifetime, the play raises issues of contemporary relevance about nationhood, justice and law.

The cast of Thrice to Rome includes a former Lord Chancellor and a Lord Chief Justice of England & Wales as well as a group of current canon lawyers, joined by staff of the Temple Church.
