Pre-pupillage & pre-training contract Paralegal Role at CANDEY
On offer is a unique opportunity to join a forward thinking and fun global litigation boutique firm of solicitors, barristers, BVI legal
practitioners and New York attorneys headquartered in Lincoln's Inn. You will have finished or are finishing your academic
studies and may or may not have secured pupillage or a training contract for 2026 onwards.
CANDEY is an elite litigation law firm specialising in high value global commercial disputes. The firm regularly appears in the High Court, appellate Courts, and in International Arbitrations, acting against the world's largest law firms.
With offices in London, New York, Vienna and the British Virgin Islands, and plans to open an office in Singapore, you will be based in London. Secondments may be available to foreign offices subject to work permits. Your role would be varied and challenging, working in a collegiate and friendly team under the supervision of dynamic senior business lawyers. We have a busy practice, and the nature of our disputes means that we are often in Court. Your responsibilities would include drafting letters, pleadings, witness statements and applications, legal research, analysis, and opinion writing, preparing bundles, carrying out disclosure review, attending Court, and working closely with our barristers, solicitors, pupils and trainees.
All previous occupants of this position have had a 100% success rate in securing pupillage, or a training contract either with us or elsewhere. This is an opportunity to obtain real life skills and experience that should distinguish your application for pupillage or a training contract. Former paralegals have commented that as a consequence of undertaking this role they have been ahead of other pupils and trainees in interview in terms of legal and commercial fluency and that it also greatly assisted in securing tenancy or a job on qualification. Pupils with pupillage elsewhere have all found that this role better prepared them for chambers and gave them a dynamic head start.
We are offering 9, 12 and 24 month contracts commencing July to September 2025. We are looking for exceptional candidates at the start of their legal careers. You should ideally have a First, a Distinction on the GDL (if applicable) with intending barristers ideally having an Outstanding grade obtained or expected on the BVS. Those on the cusp of such grades will also be considered. You must have completed your pre-qualifying academic studies or are completing the BVS, be technically excellent, commercially driven with initiative and able to thrive in a fast paced litigation environment. Above all you will have a sense of humour and be a team player. You will have client contact and are expected to be involved in managing client relationships and business development.
Please contact Recruitment@candey.com with a very short covering email and acopy of your CV if you think this sounds of interest to you.
For the avoidance of doubt, all applications for pupillages are considered equally in line with the BSB policies and guidelines. The pre-pupillage paralegal position simply gives an applicant the practical experience to improve their chances of success via the Gateway. This is no guarantee of success and absolutely no preference offered to paralegals who apply for pupillage with us.
CANDEY never uses recruitment agencies in our appointment of paralegals. We only ever consider applications made directly.
