The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple has appointed a new Director of Estates to lead the stewardship of the organisation’s historic estate.
Roddy Houston will take over from Ian Garwood, who is retiring next year after 30 years as Director.
The role is responsible for conserving and asset managing Middle Temple’s estate which includes its 16th Century Hall, 43 other buildings, 23 of which are listed, gardens and public spaces, and, with Inner Temple, the joint upkeep of 12th Century Temple Church.

Roddy’s wealth of experience will be invaluable as he takes over from Ian who has so successfully preserved and managed our very special estate”.
Roddy started his real estate career with Knight Frank & Rutley, working with Coopers & Lybrand and KPMG Consulting before joining Land Securities Trillium as an Asset Management Director. After 2 years seconded into the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, he spent six years as Deputy Director – London at the Government Property Agency. Since 2023, he has been an independent consultant, working with various clients, via Avison Young and Inner Circle Consulting.
