David was educated at University of Cambridge and Yale University.
He is now Professor of Law and Public Policy at Cambridge and a Fellow of Clare College.
Previously, he was Member of Parliament for Cambridge from 2005 to 2010 and served in office as the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Justice from 2007 to 2010.

He is the author of Textbook on Tort, Law as Engineering, and articles on topics in both private and public law. He is editor of Hepple and Matthews on Tort.
