Brian is Irish and read law at Downing College Cambridge and at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He joined Middle Temple as a student and was a Queen Mother Scholar, Sir Peter Bristow Scholar and Lechmere Prize winner. Brian was called to the bar in 1999 and joined Blackstone Chambers in that year. He practices in the areas of EU law, competition law and sanctions law. Brian took silk in England and Wales in 2016 and in Ireland in 2020. Brian has acted in over 80 cases before the CJEU and General Court of the EU. He has been at the forefront of the development of competition enforcement and litigation in the UK. Brian is committed to mentoring students and junior barristers so that they can full advantage of the flexibility of the profession, including its international aspect. Brian is a member of the Collective Actions Advisory Group and the Sanctions Committee of the Bar Council. He is a member of the Board of the International Friends of the National Gallery of Ireland.
