Bio:

Ian was a partner in various law firms in Northern Ireland and London before being appointed to the High Court as a judge in Northern Ireland in 2019. He is the commercial judge and is also a member of the Competition Appeal Tribunal. Whilst in practice, Ian also sat as a judicial member of the Tax Tribunal and sat on the Charity Tribunal.

Ian was President of the Law Society of Northern Ireland 2016/7 representing the profession at a policy level during the Brexit discussions with the EU, and is a former member of the Council for Legal Education. He has recently been appointed chair of the Advisory Board to the Centre for Legal Technology at the University of Ulster.

Outside of the law, Ian is involved in diverse charities with interests ranging from the preservation of the built environment to cancer research and the provision of integrated education.
