The Lady Templeman Indo-British Goodwill Award - India

Master L.M. Singhvi, a distinguished barrister and Honorary Master of the Bench of this Inn, has established an award for members of the Middle Temple to facilitate an informal fact-finding and bond-building tour of about three weeks’ duration. Following his death in October 2007, his son has kindly agreed to continue this scheme.

The successful applicant will be based in New Delhi, from where hospitality will be arranged across Rajasthan State. The award is aimed at student members who wish to see judges, lawyers and courts at work and would like to take the opportunity to learn of the places, people and proceedings of the Indian legal system.

The recipient will receive funding to assist in travel expenses, following a donation to the Inn by Master Templeman.

Applicants must be members of the Middle Temple intending to practise at the Bar of England and Wales, and ideally about to enter pupillage.

Candidates are required to submit the following in hard copy:

A covering note, signed;

a paper of between 100 and 250 words indicating why he/she is applying for the award and why it should be awarded to him/her;

a full Curriculum Vitae.

The papers should be sent to the Deputy Under Treasurer (Education) by 31 March 2008, for the award the following summer. All candidates will be interviewed on 20 May 2008.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed to those candidates travelling to the Inn for an interview from outside the M25 up to a maximum of £50 per candidate.
