Ashley Building works & disruption

04 Sep 2020

Formation of new Common Room/Garden Room

Following initial strip out work, the next phase of the project involves demolition of various internal structural walls and enlargement of existing openings on the garden elevation to form new windows and doorways. It is expected that these works will take about 5 weeks to complete during which time the noise within the building will be quite disruptive to users. Staff and visitors may request the loan of ear defenders if they find the noise particularly troublesome. These may be obtained from the enquiry desk on the main library floor. The contractor will work to the following noisy hours of work:

  • Monday to Friday
    8.00am to 10.00am
    12.00pm to 2.00pm
    4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Saturday
9.00am to 4.00pm by prior arrangement
  • Sunday
    No noisy working

The works will also include alteration in the main stairwell at basement level and at times it will be necessary to place the toilets on the lower mezzanine floor out of action for certain periods. During these periods, alternative toilet facilities will be made available in the following locations:

  • Tasker’s Ashley
    Building 1st Floor
  • Bench Cloakrooms
    Hall Bench Corridor
  • Barristers’ Cloakrooms
    Female (Hall Gallery Floor)
    Male (Hall Lower Ground Floor)

In order to carry out structural modification within the computer server room it will be necessary to shut down the Inn’s network systems on Thursday 10th September at 2.00pm until Monday 14th September at 2.00pm. During this period all network services serving the Treasury office and library will be out of use. The library will remain open until 4.00pm on Thursday and reopen at 9.30am on Tuesday but it will not be possible to use the online search facilities whilst the servers are closed down.

We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause you.
