Speakers: Jason Haynes and Nick De Marco

Many sports prefer disputes prefer to be settled via arbitration over traditional courts, such as football (soccer), Boxing and Formula 1, but what is arbitration in sport and how does it work? What types of disputes are subject to arbitration? What are the unique challenges arising in sports arbitration? Are arbitrators a good alternative to a court Judge? Most importantly, is arbitration a suitable medium for resolving matters that impact our fundamental human rights?

Although you may not actively participate in sport, it is hard to ignore the impact it has on society and our collective morality, especially in our perception of gender, transnational corporations, and fair play.

Nick De Marco QC and Dr Jason Haynes, with years of sports law experience behind them, will take you through all the questions above and be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Jason Haynes is a Barrister and Solicitor (admitted to practice in the Caribbean) and Lecturer in Sports Law at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. He is also Deputy Dean (Graduate Studies and Research) at same institution. He is the co-author of the leading text, Commonwealth Caribbean Sports Law (Routledge, London, 2018). He completed his PhD at Durham Law School.
