Event Details

This event is taking place in the Sherrard Room AND will be streamed live. This page is for tickets to attend online. To book a ticket to attend in-person CLICK HERE. We will not be able to admit anyone into the Sherrard Room with a virtual ticket.

For those attending in-person please note that bookings are open at full capacity and social distancing will no longer be in place.

Master Hockman (Stephen Hockman QC), former Treasurer, in conversation with Lord Andrew Tyrie, former Chair of the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee and subsequently of the Competition and Markets Authority.

In this session Master Hockman will discuss with Lord Tyrie his work in chairing the Select Committee and in chairing the Parliamentary investigation into banking standards in which Queen's Counsel was deployed to question witnesses. They will also discuss the role, actual and potential, of the Competition and Markets Authority post Brexit, and the future for legal regulation of our economic and financial system.

Learning Outcomes:

After this session, students should be able to:

  • Describe the role of the Competition and Markets Authority post Brexit.
  • Critique the work of legislators and regulators in regards to the UK’s economic and financial system.
  • Identify ways in which legal and regulatory processes can be made more effective by the incorporation and deployment of judicial and forensic skills.

Where we have a waiting list we will offer your ticket to someone else, so please do cancel your ticket if you are no longer able to attend by emailing education@middletemple.org.uk
