Cross-Cultural Practice and Communication [ONLINE]

Good lawyering and effective advocacy require persuasive communication, credibility, trust, and deep understanding of a client's (or opponent's) situation. Context is everything, and context is complex in an increasingly diverse, global, and multicultural world.

In this Qualifying Session, participants will identify needs and challenges of cross-cultural practice and will discuss strategies for improving communication across cultures. The Session will focus on the relationships between lawyers and clients, lawyers and opposing counsel, and advocates and courts. 

This session will be hosted by Jeffrey R. Baker

Jeffrey R. Baker is a Clinical Professor of Law at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law in Los Angeles, California, where he serves as Assistant Dean of Clinical Education and Global Programs. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the Alabama State Bar, and the Mississippi Bar, and he has twenty years of experience in diverse legal practice. Through the Pepperdine Community Justice Clinic, he currently serves and represents nonprofits, charities, international and foreign NGOs advancing human rights, economic development, and social justice in the US and abroad.
