Event Details

The Middle Temple Wales Circuit Society would like to invite you, as part of the Inn’s ongoing commitment to host more events on Circuit for Middle Templars, to the Wales Circuit Inaugural Dinner on Friday 12 November 2021, from 18.30, at the Park Plaza Cardiff.

Ticket Prices:

Student members - £30
Members under 7 years call - £50
Members over 7 years call - £70
Guests - £70

Students and transferring lawyers need to attend the lecture before dinner in order to claim a Qualifying Session. Members and Guests are of course most welcome to attend too.


Master M Jones and Master D Lloyd-Jones will discuss their journeys at the Bar with unique reference to the Crown Prosecution Service and becoming a Silk and then a discussion on the Supreme Court and the role of the Privy Council in contemporary society. There will be a chance for you to ask questions and chat with the speakers over dinner and drinks after.

Master David Lloyd-Jones (Lord Lloyd-Jones) was Called to the Bar in 1975 and Benched in 2005. He was educated at Pontypridd Boys’ Grammar School and Downing College, Cambridge and was a Fellow of Downing College from 1975 to 1991. He was a Junior Crown Counsel (Common Law) from 1997 to 1999 when he was appointed Queen’s Counsel. He was appointed a High Court Judge of the Queen’s Bench Division in October 2005. From 2008 to 2011 he was a Presiding Judge of Wales and Chair of the Lord Chancellor’s Standing Committee on the Welsh Language. In 2012 he was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and was Chairman of the Law Commission from 2012 to 2015. In 2017 he was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court.

Master Michael Jones (Michael Jones QC) was Called to the Bar by Middle Temple in 1995 and Benched in July of this year, 2021. In 2009, he was selected from the self-employed Bar by the Crown Prosecution Service to become its first ever Senior Crown Advocate in Wales.  In 2018 he was appointed Queen’s Counsel, the first to have done so in the history of the Crown Prosecution Service in Wales and only the third ever QC appointment from within the Crown Prosecution Service since its inception in 1986.

  • Describe the role of the CPS and how to start a career at the employed Bar.
  • Explain the role of the Supreme Court with reference to specific Supreme Court Decisions.
  • Identify the role of the Privy Council in modern society.
