Please join Alan Bacarese for a talk on a career at the Employed Bar and what you can expect if you decide to venture down this path; plus, an in-depth look into his career involving international anti-corruption.
He will take you through what areas of law intersect with a career at the International Employed Bar; how much advocacy training is required in these roles; what (if any) are the advantages of being a qualified UK lawyer and to what extent is there an overlap between law and politics in these roles?
Alan Bacarese
Alan currently works for the World Bank, where he oversees investigations of alleged fraud, corruption, and other sanctionable practices, alongside this he acts to prevent fraud and corruption via the World Bank’s Prevention, Risk, and Knowledge Management function. Alan has a wealth of experience in investigating matters of international fraud and corruption. Previous international organisations he has worked for include, the UN, the Council of Europe, the Inter-American Development Bank and the African Development Bank, to name a few. He is was Called to the Bar in 1988 and is an experienced advocate and litigator.

Learning Outcomes:
After this session, students should be able to:
- Recognise the importance of lawyers in different international environments.
- Identify the similarities and differences between advocacy on the Employed Bar compared to that taught on the Bar Course.
- Describe the role lawyers play in the field of international anti-corruption.
