Speakers:

Master Sarah Mullally

Bishop Sarah sits in the House of Lords as one of the Lords Spirituals, having been introduced on 24 May 2018. She was sworn as a member of the Privy Council on 14 March 2018, and became Dean of Her Majesty’s Chapels Royal on 11 July 2019. Bishop Sarah studied first at South Bank University for her BSc followed by a MSc and then at Heythrop College, University of London where she got her MA. She was awarded Honorary Doctorates of Science from Bournemouth University, (2004), University of Wolverhampton (2004) and University of Hertfordshire (2005) and was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2005 for her contribution to nursing and midwifery. She was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from the University of Exeter in 2019 and is the first female Bishop of London.

Learning Outcomes:

After this session, students should be able to:

  • Identify and define the core values that are essential to the politico-legal professions.
  • Identify challenges associated with delivering on these core values of equality, diversity & Inclusion.
  • Apply their new knowledge to inform their ethical and value driven decision making

Links to the Professional Statement, wider workings of the Bar, administration of justice or a public interest matter

In order to mark International Women's Day, Master Mullally will discuss the core values that are needed to improve diversity, inclusion and belonging at the Bar; plus, the possible challenges we face along the way.
