An internationally acclaimed concert organist, Dame Gillian made her début at the Royal Albert Hall while still a student, as concerto soloist on the Opening Night of the 1965 Proms. Since then she has given some 2000 performances worldwide and was nominated in 1999 by Classic CD magazine as one of the 100 Greatest Players of the Century and by the Sunday Times as one of the 1000 Music Makers of the Millennium. She has served as President of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, the Royal College of Organists and the Incorporated Society of Organists (the first fe-male president of both), and is also the Prince Consort Professor of Organ, Royal College of Music. In 2010 she gave a concert in Temple Church to raise funds for the refurbishment of the Temple Church Organ.
