Helen was Called to the Bar in 1990 and practises from Pump Court Chambers, a Western Circuit set. She is a highly experienced family practitioner, dealing with proceedings involving public and private children law at every level, specialising particularly in complex and serious public law cases, including those with parallel criminal proceedings, and in Wardship. She has significant experience of dealing with vulnerable lay clients, whether through mental or physical health problems, learning difficulties or addictions, in many of which cases she receives instructions from the Official Solicitor. She is commended for her approachability and her handling of sensitive and difficult clients, as well as for her no nonsense approach.

A staunch supporter of the Inn, who believes in having fun, Helen performed in Revels for 14 years, served on the Hall Committee for many years, including as Chairman for 2 terms, was involved in organising social events in the Inn, including Autumn and Burns Night Dances and was on the Joint Inns of Court Ball Committee for many years. Helen regularly attends Inn events and enjoys dining in Hall. She is a Sponsor to new members and, in addition, she has been and is a committed advocacy trainer for the Inn.

Away from her practice, she enjoys sailing, reading Terry Pratchett and ‘golden age’ crime novels and all things rhinoceros. She is also currently perfecting her chocolate brownie recipe!
