General Provisions

Only candidates who intend to practise at the Bar of England or Wales are eligible to apply. Candidates can only apply to one Inn.

  1. Scholarships are awarded annually after interview and the candidate's record and qualifications are taken into account. Where an interview is required, it is the Inn's policy, so far as practicable, to interview all candidates.
  2. The first criterion for making an award is always merit. Financial circumstances will be taken into account when fixing the amount of the award.
  3. More than one award or scholarship may be held at the discretion of the Scholarships and Prizes Committee.
  4. Applications for some awards may be made before joining the Inn, but no award will be paid until the successful candidate has joined the Inn.
  5. If the course is undertaken part-time, applications can be made either before the first or before the second year of the course.
  6. Major Scholarships will be paid in one instalment at the start of the BVC or CPE/GDL academic year. Pupillage hardship awards are paid as directed by the committee.
  7. The Inn welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. There is no age limit for any scholarship or prize.
