Lady Templeman - Master Singhvi

The Lady Templeman-Master Singhvi Memorial Travel Fellowship - India

Master L.M. Singhvi, a distinguished barrister and Honorary Master of the Bench of this Inn, established this award for members of the Middle Temple to facilitate an informal fact-finding and bond-building tour of about three weeks’ duration. Since his death in October 2007, Master Singhvi's son, Dr Abhishek Singhvi, has kindly continued this scheme.

The successful applicant will be based in New Delhi, from where hospitality will be arranged across Rajasthan State. The award is aimed at student members who wish to see judges, lawyers and courts at work and would like to take the opportunity to learn of the places, people and proceedings of the Indian legal system.

The recipient will receive funding to assist in travel expenses, following a donation to the Inn by Master Templeman.

Applicants must be members of the Middle Temple intending to practise at the Bar of England and Wales, and ideally about to enter pupillage.

Candidates are required to submit the following in hard copy:

  • A covering note, signed;
  • a paper of between 100 and 250 words indicating why he/she is applying for the award and why it should be awarded to him/her;
  • a full Curriculum Vitae.

The papers should be sent to the Deputy Under Treasurer (Education) by 31 March 2012, for the award during the summer of 2012. Interviews will be held in April or May 2012 (date to be confirmed). The selection panel reserves the right to draw up a shortlist for interview.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed to those candidates travelling to the Inn for an interview from outside the M25 up to a maximum of £50 per candidate.
