Hong Kong Scholarship
Thanks to the generosity of John Scott SC, a member of the Inn, we are delighted to be able to add a new international scholarship to our portfolio.The scholarship will cover
• A return economy flight;
• A stay of three weeks in Hong Kong, with one week's work experience in Des Voeux Chambers, one week's marshalling, and possibly one week's work experience in an international law firm;
• Accommodation
The scholarship is aimed at applicants who would like to practise commercial law and have a particular interest in international commercial law. It is open to applicants before, during or after pupillage. They must have completed the BPTC at the time of commencing the scholarship. For the exact timing of the stay in Hong Kong, the successful candidate will liaise with Mr Scott direct.
In making their selection, the interviewing panel will consider candidates' merit according to the criteria which apply to all the Inn’s scholarships, namely academic ability, motivation to succeed at the Bar, potential as an advocate, personal qualities such as self-reliance, independence, integrity, reliability, and the capacity to work effectively with clients, colleagues and chambers staff, as well as their interest in international commercial law.
Applicants are required to submit the following in hard copy:
1. a covering note, signed and dated;
2. a paper of between 100 and 250 words indicating why he/she is applying for the scholarship and why it should be awarded to him/her;
3. a full Curriculum Vitae;
4. an academic reference.
These should be sent to the Deputy Under Treasurer (Education) by 31 March 2012. An interview will be held on a date in April or May, to be confirmed. The selection panel reserves the right to draw up a shortlist for interview.
