Middle Temple Historical Society

The second meeting this year was held on Monday, 28 June when after supper the guest speaker, His Honour Anthony Bradbury, spoke about the creation of the County Court system in London. He spoke amusingly about the unsatisfactory confusion of tribunals of various kinds that had earlier attempted to do justice in small claims disputes and mentioned many of the buildings they had occupied, most now destroyed and forgotten. His account of the new buildings and the judges who sat in them provoked a lively discussion amongst the audience, several of whom had experience of those courts as judges or counsel.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 19 October when HH Eric Stockdale, a member of the Society and Bencher of the Inn, will ask us after supper to consider "Thomas Erskine - the finest advocate of all?"
