The Middle Templar

The Inn's magazine, The Middle Templar, is published twice per year, usually in April and November.  It contains information about the Inn, its members and events.  It is distributed free of charge to all members for whom we have correct contact details.  Regular features include a Foreword by Master Treasurer, profiles of new Benchers, articles from the Readers, information about guest lectures, reports from the Hall Committee and Middle Temple Students' Association, updates from the Library and Temple Church, and news of forthcoming events.

The Winter 2011 issue celebrates the Inn's special relationship with the United States and the American Inns of Court; features several book reviews including the History of the Middle Temple and Fine Lines and Distinctions; pays tribute to Master Anthony Arlidge and his 20 memorable years as Master of Entertainments; highlights intiatives by the Hall Committee, MT Young Barristers' Association (MTYBA) and the Part-Time Students; and includes profiles of new Honorary Benchers, Baroness Boothroyd and Boris Johnson, and well as other distinguished Benchers.

The Spring 2011 issue introduces the Inn's new Under Treasurer, Catherine Quinn; highlights the Academics' Dinner and the Inn's relationship with Chuo University.  It includes articles on law in Southern Africa and the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates, details of the Inn's new Advocacy Training Suite, and the new MT Access to the Bar Awards.  It also includes information about the Inn's grounds and garden, conservation of Communion Books in the Archive, MT Historical Society Supper Talks, forthcoming events in the Temple Church and fundraising initiatives for the Organ Fund Appeal.

The Winter 2010 issue focuses on the Inn's international associations including the Legal Conference in South Africa, judicial training in Mauritius and Canada, advocacy training in The Bahamas, and the Malaysian Middle Temple Association.  It also shows photographs from the Employed Bar Reception, Grand Day and Private Guest Night and highlights forthcoming events such as a theatre performance in 2011 by "Edward's Boys".  Several articles provide insight into the current issues and changes in the legal profession, including the role of academics.  It also includes features about the Temple and famous people associated with it, and a farewell tribute to the Under Treasurer.

The Spring 2010 issue features the luncheon visit by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Treasurership of Queen Elizabeth, later Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.  It also includes articles about the future of the referral Bar, the Scottish Bar, and the Employed Bar.  The issue celebrates the Inn's links with the United States through its Honorary Benchers, provides details on the Inn's new Fellows, and includes humourous articles by long-serving members of staff.  Finally, members are encouraged to become more involved in the Inn by participating in the events listed on page 31. 

The Winter 2009 issue features the Admission to the Inn, Call to the Bar and Call to the Bench of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales.  It also includes articles about the Inn's international associations with Mauritius and Japan; an update from the Scholarship Fund Appeal; information about the Hall Committee by the new Chairman, Robert-Jan Temmink, book reviews, and the results of the Middle Temple Golf Society who have regained the Scrutton Cup.

The Spring 2009 issue highlighted the importance of the Inn's Scholarship Fund Appeal and featured articles from several members who have benefitted from the generosity of those who have contributed and continue to contribute to the Scholarship Fund.  The issue also featured several articles written by members about their experiences with mooting, marshalling, and advocacy training.

The Winter 2008 issue commemorated the events of the 2008 Festival: an anniversary year celebrating the granting of the 1608 Letters Patent by James VI (I of Scotland) which gave the freehold of the Temple lands to the Honourable Societies of the Middle and Inner Temple.
