Continuing Professional Development

The Inn provides an ongoing program of Professional Development for practicing Barristers, based on the requirements of the Bar Council. This breaks down into courses at three levels, namely;

  • Pupil Courses two week and weekend courses providing experience and meeting Bar Council requirements for Pupils.
  • NPP (New Practitioner's Programme) for practitioners in their first three years of independent practice, comprising 9 hours of advocacy training, and three hours of ethics training
  • CPD (Continuing Professional Development) of at least 12 hours per calendar year, and
  • Training the Trainers, based on promulgating the Inn's formula of advocacy training. This has proven highly effective, but requires a little time to get used to. Practitioners interested in becoming advocacy trainers may attend a series of courses to familiarise themselves with this process.
Training the Trainers

There is scope for members at all levels of experience, including BVC students, to participate in some capacity in the training program.
