Masters of the Bench

Lord Advocate of Scotland from 2006-2011, having previously been Solicitor General since 2001, Dame Elish was the first woman, the first Procurator Fiscal, and the first solicitor to hold either post.  After 2011, Dame Elish was appointed as the first patron of LawWorks Scotland, a charity which helps people who cannot afford legal advice.  She is a visiting professor at Strathclyde Law School, where she teaches undergraduates, and developed a Master’s course in advocacy studies.  She is a member of Terra Firma Chambers.  In September 2012, she became Principal of St Hugh's College Oxford.
