The Rt Hon Sir John Major, KG, CH, ACIB is a British Conservative politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1990 to 1997, during which time he was also Leader of the Conservative Party.  As Prime Minister Sir John Major oversaw Britain's longest period of continuous economic growth and the beginning of the Northern Ireland Peace Process.  He held the posts of Foreign Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Cabinet of Margaret Thatcher, and was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Huntingdon from the 1979 general election to the 2001 general election.  He is now the oldest living former British Prime Minister.

In 2005 Master Major was the guest speaker at the Inn’s Annual Dinner for its members.  More recently, in June 2013, he attended an official “opening” of the collection of portrait photographs of Prime Ministers in the Library and gave a short speech to mark the occasion.
