Full Title: Neil Saunders
Category: Ordinary Bencher
Bench Call Date: 24.11.2015
Call Date: 22.11.1983
Bio:

Neil was called in 1983 and is entering his forth decade at the bar. He is one of the longest serving members of 3 Raymond Buildings. Neil has been an advanced advocacy trainer for some years and regularly conducts training sessions in Middle, within chambers and elsewhere. He has been involved with education having previously been a governor at ICSL and been a member of the chambers pupil and tenancy committees for many years. Neil previously sat on Bar Council as well as the CBA and SE Circuit.

From the outset of practice Neil was determined to practice in crime albeit not just in the criminal courts also appearing in disciplinary proceedings. Neil decision to remain a junior not prevented him appearing in some very high profile cases over the years including representing 10 families in the 7/7 inquest before Lady Justice Hallett.

Neil has deliberately maintained a wide practice predominantly in crime and still prosecutes although he is more often defending in serious criminal cases. Neil has been in some exceptionally long cases mainly in London and represented various defendants in the series of hacking trials.

Neil has regularly been ranked a star individual in Chambers directory and referred to as one of the best juniors at the bar. Neil played rugby for London Welsh and over the years has coached at Old Alleynians and refereed in London SE, enjoying it as much as sitting as a Recorder on the SE Circuit. He is now determined to reduce his golf handicap from 25!
