Middle Temple Library Homepage The following online resources include databases to which the Library subscribes, and provides free access to Library users. They are shown on the Middle Temple Library Menu and marked with an asterisk. In addition to these, there are some free databases listed, such as the Court Service. Please ask a librarian at the Enquiry Desk if you need help to login to the database/s of your choice. You can access the Internet by using the Google search window or by typing in a web address. Access to the catalogue of the Middle Temple library and of the other 3 Inns' libraries is also available from this screen. The Middle Temple Library Catalogue The Middle Temple Catalogue and the catalogues of the other Inns look similar, and are searchable in the same way. The Catalogues of the other Inns' Libraries The catalogues of Inner Temple, Lincoln's and Gray's Inn can now also be accessed direct from the web using the addresses: Library Subscription Databases Lawtel - covers case law, and transcripts from 1980, practice directions, quantum reports, legislation from 1987 and legal journal articles from 1996. The database also gives access to case law on Human Rights from 1979, Personal Injury, Civil Procedure and Local Government. Lexis UK - includes reported (dating from 1865) and unreported (from 1980) cases from the UK, as well as some Irish, Australian and Indian cases and also Human Rights cases from 1954 Lexis also covers UK statutes from 1267 and all SIs in force Lexis US - covers law enacted by the United States Supreme Court, the Federal Circuit Courts and the Federal District Courts. One of the most straightforward ways of searching is through the "Get a Document" icon by parties or citation. All of the results are in full text Westlaw - includes 180,000 full text reported and unreported cases, case analysis and status, full text journal articles and legislation from 1267. All England Direct - includes the All England Law Reports back to 1936 and also contains material not available in the printed copy. It also covers Commercial cases from 1999, the Annual Review, a digest of recent cases, full-text transcripts from 1997, and review articles. Cases from the European Court of Justice are also included and date from 1995. Casetrack - is described as the definitive source of full text judgments on the Internet. It can be used to view the full texts of judgments; to keep abreast of recent judgments in your practice area; and to check whether judgment has been given. Justis - includes The Law Reports (the full text from 1865); Weekly Law Reports (coverage starts in 1953); Official Journal "C" Series (covering proposed legislation, notices of European Court of Justice cases, and activities of the European Parliament from 1990); Celex (the official legal database of the EC including full text of regulations, treaties, directives and cases from 1952 onwards); UK Statutes (UK acts from 1707, Scottish acts from 1999, Acts of the Northern Ireland Assembly from 2000, English acts from 1235-1706, and Church Assembly and General Synod acts from 1920); UK Statutory Instruments (The full text of the SIs from 1987); and Daily Cases (case summaries from ICLR's "Daily Law Notes" website). JustCite - is one of the Justis databases and currently allows full text access to Criminal Appeal Reports 1967-date; Family Law Reports 1980-date; Human Rights 1960-date; Industrial Cases Reports 1972- date; Lloyds Law Reports 1951-date; Simons Tax Cases 2001-date, as well as all of the Justis and Casetrack databases. JustCite is especially useful, however, for identifying cases from a detailed subject search and will also link directly to other cases and legislation judicially considered. It will also identify specific areas of legislation through a subject area search in the same way. Parlianet - is an index to various types of parliamentary papers comprising of Lords and Commons Hansard, legislation, Official publications, EU documents and House of Commons and Lords research papers. Many are available in full text. The Times Law Reports - These date back to 1985 with legal articles back to May 1989. They are available from the day of publication of the newspaper Electronic Immigration Network - consists of immigration case law and dates from 1988. EIN is a voluntary sector organisation which specialises in the provision of information relating to immigration and refugee law via the Internet, particularly in the United Kingdom and Europe. CaseSearch - is a citator service from Butterworths that covers cases back to 1502. Some cases are available in full text, and some give citations.
Free Internet Services British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) - is a free service, the link is provided for your convenience. It houses around half a million reports and other legal material on predominantly UK and Irish material but also a substantial amount from the Commonwealth and the rest of the world. Middle Temple Library is one of the sponsors of this site. Courts Service - A free service, the link is provided for your convenience. The site contains daily court lists for the appeal courts, high courts and county courts. It also contains a range of legal forms to download, practice directions from 2000 on, sentencing guidelines, court fees and selected judgments starting in 1996.
