Law Reports, Periodicals and Other Serial Publications

The Library holds an extensive range of UK law reports, both general and specialist. Our earliest law report dates from 1270 and the library also holds many of the early law reports, most of which were written in French and many of them are in manuscript form. The earliest printed law reports we hold date from 1502. These are the Nominate Reports and we hold the majority of these. Our modern law reports date from 1865 with the creation of the Council of Law Reporting which produce The Law Reports. The library also holds all of the major series of law reports including The Digest, The Weekly Law Reports and Halsburys Laws.

The library subscribes to the standard academic periodicals in the legal field including The Law Quarterly Review, The Modern Law Review, The Criminal Law Review and the Cambridge Law Journal, and also receives titles for its specialist European and American collections. Other holdings of note include a full run of The London Gazette dating from 1665. Any title can be searched for on our catalogue.

The library also subscribes to all of the major commercial databases including Lawtel, Lexis, Westlaw, Justis and Casetrack. However, they are only available for use in the library.

The library also holds many law reports, periodicals and journals covering all aspects of the law and its jurisdictions within England and Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Europe the United States and much of the Commonwealth.
